HISTORY DOES NOT HAVE MUCH TO TELL, IF THERE IS ONE THING THAT DOES, IT IS ART
THE GAUYEM LITERATURE MATINEE DISCUSSED THE ‘’TEPEGÖZ STORY’’ FROM THE DEDE KORKUT STORIES.
The ‘’Tepegöz Story’’ from the Dede Korkut Stories were discussed by the Literature Matinee at the Girne American University (GAU) Creative Industries Federation and Application Centre.
In the 3rd Literature Matinee held by the Girne American University (GAU) Creative Industries Federation and Application Centre, the ‘’Tepegöz Story’’ was discussed from different perspectives.
Prof.Dr. Umay Türkeş, who talked about the ‘’Tepegöz Story’’ from the Dede Korkut Stories said, “The period the stories were created and lived in were the times the Turks didn’t have much dominance. Dede Korkut stories are usually evaluated in an epic group and heroism. In Dede Korkut stories there are no stereotypes, there are characters. And this shows us that characters are our mentors. We need to re-evaluate our knowledge. The Dede Korkut stories contain Science Fiction; however, we are not able to introduce this to our age. The “Tepegöz story isn’t referred to as Tepegöz, but something like dragon monster.’’
Demir, ‘’History doesn’t have much to tell, if there’s one thing that does, it’s art’’
Prof. Dr. Yavuz Demir, member of the GAUYEM board, stated “Dede Korkut is a mythologic piece. Although it has the required materials, it is not an internalized piece. If we read the stories with a hero characterization it will not be able to give us a future. History doesn’t have much to tell, if there’s one thing that does, it’s art. We’re a society that suffers deeply. However, we still risk for another child to give their life up to the government. The only problem is that we don’t risk it as art, but we don’t find it hard to fit in when it comes to politics. We aren’t able to express our pain in art.
