A Seminar About HIV Virus Was Held at GAU
On 1tst of December a seminar was held in Millennium Congress Center due to World AIDS Day with the participation of non-governmental organization Envision Diversity. During the seminar, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Başustaoğlu, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zeki and Prof. Dr. Nesli Bayraktar expressed information about how HIV virus arise and its ways of protection.
Expert of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Dr. Nesil Bayraktar who made the first speech in seminar transferred the new developments related to the HIV virus, its mode of transmission, and its diagnosis and treatment modalities. Bayraktar stating that HIV is not only transmitted sexually, virus that leading to leucorrhoea, burning sensation during urination, febricity, and contusion, arise from common use of syringes, bad hygiene, and passing from mother to baby.
Prof.Dr. Ahmet Başustaoğlu made an attention-grabbing presentation about not only the AIDS but also sexually transmitted diseases. Here, transmission, diagnosis and treatment modalities of these diseases were explained especially. By their age group, it was emphasized that they are at high risk. It was focused on the sexually transmitted diseases and especially on Papilloma virus that causes of cancer and it was suggested the protection by vaccination.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zeki Avcı in his speech, offered interesting and remarkable results of the Awareness of Sexually Transmitted Diseases” poll. He explained that the results are underwhelming and he announced, it is understood that young people haven’t got enough information about sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS.
It is seen that, common expectation of students that have joined to questionnaires and presentations at the end of the symposium is forming an advice center in our university on this topic and including of this topic in our curriculum as an optional lesson.
