GAU - New Semester in International Marine Education

Girne American University is waiting for the future sailors for the 2014/2015 academic year with simulators, training stations and open-air laboratories in respect of the 4-year program of Transportation and Logistics and Deck (Shipping Management Engineering) under the Higher School of Maritime and Transportation.

 

GAU Principal of Higher School of Maritime and Transportation – Captain Efdal Safel stated that - "Deck (DUIM) department has completed all preparations related to marine training requirements of the International Maritime Organization and Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication. Deck (DUIM) department, which is located in the Techno Park building, is ready to educate with classrooms, laboratories, a bridge simulator, GMDSS simulator, steering simulator, liquid cargo handling simulator and 4 experiment pools. Also, two educational outdoor pool, davit closed lifeboats and advanced fire stations with marine training at our Camelot facilities are within our preparations.  Our thesis was visited by the Maritime Training Council (DEK) which was hosted by our university last year, deans and department heads of maritime education and training institutions and organizations in Turkey, President of the Ship Construction Engineers Chamber and the technical committee, supervisors and managers of Ministry of Education, YÖK Executive Vice-President, General Manager of Marine and Freshwater regulations and his delegations and was praised after their visit.  The language of the program being English is entirely for the students’ advantage. Our professors of sea origin and academicians are from 6 different countries; and have a high level of knowledge, skills and professional transfers."

Safel, who mentioned the job opportunities after graduation and international educational opportunities of the Higher School of GAU Maritime and Transportation, stated that – “We have completed all the work for the new academic year for all our departments. It is obvious that we have a say on the logistics and transport market education with the increasing quality of our graduates we give each year. All of our graduates are currently working in the best positions in national and international companies. Our foreign graduates generally work in management positions in international markets. Our Transportation and Logistics students have the opportunity to see hands-on training at the ports and terminals in the region of Girne American University campuses while studying at our overseas campuses."
