Girne American University and the Denktaş Foundation have signed a common studies, education-teaching and cultural protocol.

The signing ceremony which was held in GAU Rectorate Building Meeting Hall was attended by GAU CEO and Vice Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi, GAU Vice Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Cemile Esenyel, Member of the Denktaş Foundation Board - Değer Denktaş, Rauf Alp Denktaş and his wife Rachel Denktaş.

GAU CEO and Vice Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi made a statement relevant to the occasion that GAU, within the framework of the signed protocol, will provide all available facilities of support to the Denktaş Foundation which is named after the Late Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş. Vehbi also underlined that GAU will provide scholarships for those students recommended by the Denktaş Foundation.  Vehbi stressed that the main aim of the protocol is to ensure the preservation of the Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş’s name as an individual and GAU consider that this is an obliged duty of each and every Cypriot Turk.  Vehbi emphasized that our existence is due to the sacrifices and efforts of the Late Leader, and also remarked that no Cypriot Turk or citizen of theTRNC will ever forget the Late Rauf Raif Denktaş.

Grandson Raif Alp Denktaş also made a statement on behalf of the Denktaş Foundation and stressed that it is known by everyone that the Founding President Denktaş had significant sensitivity regarding education and that this protocol will not only keep the name preserved but also provide scholarships for those students who are to be granted. “GAU as the first university to commence such a protocol”, Denktaş reported, “made us as an institution and me as a citizen very happy” as he thanked GAU.

The preferred and selected students by the Denktaş Foundation will be granted with scholarship rates specified by GAU.  Furthermore students will also be able to receive support on specific topics considering research and also will be reinforced by scientific sessions. Lastly the parties will cooperate by means of advertisements.
