28th Graduation in GAU 30th Year

Diplomas were awarded to the 730 students who graduated from GAU 2013/2014 spring term academic programs of Undergraduate, Post-graduate and Doctorate degrees with the ceremony which was held at Girne Amphitheatre.

The ceremony was attended by Former Ambassador, President of the European Diplomats Union and EU Parliament Member - Günther Meinel, Board Member of Diplomats Association Headquarters - Lukas Lunn, President of Turkey Diplomats Union - Ferhat Bozçelik, Vice President of Diplomats Association - Serdar Kılavuz, Undersecretary of Public Works and Transportation Ministry - Suat Yeldener, The Ministry of Education, Higher Education Manager -Hüseyin Kavaz, GAU Chair of Board of Trustees - Memduh Erdal, GAU Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Serhat Akpınar, GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi, Vice-Chancellors of Board of Administrators - Cemile Esenyel, GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner, Turkish News Agency-Cyprus (TAK) Director - Nariman Saygılı, Kyrenia Mayor - Sümer Aygın, YODAK Board Member - Olgun Çiçek together with Executives, Academicians, Students and Parents.

GAU Rector - Prof. Yıldırım Öner, GAU Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Serhat Akpınar, GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Dr. Asım Vehbi, President of the Association of Diplomats - Günther Meinel and Miracle Chinwenmeri on the behalf of the graduates, gave speeches at the ceremony which commenced with a moment of silence followed by the National Anthem.

GAU Honorary Doctorate Degree was presented to Former Ambassador, President of the Europian Diplomats Union and EU Parliament Member - Günther Meinel by GAU President of Board of Trustees - Memduh Erdal, GAU Rector and Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Serhat Akpınar and GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner.

Meinel, "From now on, I will work harder for Turkish Cypriots"

Meinel who established the International Diplomats Union with European Union Expansion Officer Captain Günter Verheugen in 2000 after being a diplomat for 25 years, stated in his speech at the ceremony that he will work more for the Turkish Cypriots. Meinel who was brought to the Presidency of the International Association of Diplomats with the decision of the EU Commission, expressed his gratitude and pride for the Honorary Doctorate Degree presented to him by GAU.

Meinel who stated that he loved Northern Cyprus and its people; underlined that he will work more for Turkish Cypriots from now on.

Akpınar, "Well-thought decisions may be the key to the place you want to reach"

GAU Founding President, Chancellor of the Board - Serhat Akpinar congratulated the graduates in his speech and wished them success in their lives.

Akpınar, who drew attention to the point that happiness is not presented easily in life, expressed that well-thought decisions may be the key to the place they want to reach.

Serhat Akpinar compared the process that the graduates are in to fish in a small aquarium and expressed that the fish grow in direct proportion to the water they are in. He stated that the graduates are in a similar situation, they are stepping from a large pool to a real life pool and that the growth potential is infinite and in their own hands.

Vehbi, "You made the right decision when choosing your education at GAU"
GAU Chancellor of the Board of Administrators and CEO - Dr. Asim Vehbi stated that the graduates will start to enjoy the full experience of their new lives and noted that they made the right decision by choosing GAU.

Asim Vehbi, who noted that the graduates made the right decision when choosing, emphasized that GAU is experiencing the honour of creating the future with them.

Asim Vehbi wished for the glow that appeared in the eyes of the young people on the graduation night to last a lifetime.

Öner, "Never stop learning new things"

GAU Rector - Prof. Yıldırım Öner congratulated the 30th founding year and all of the 28th year graduates in his speech and wished them happy, healthy and successful lives.

Öner who expressed that learning is not a process that ends with getting a diploma but one that lasts a lifetime, asked the young graduates to never stop learning new things.

Chinwenmeri, "I firmly believe that I will be successful in my life with the outstanding education I received from GAU"

Miracle Chinwenmeri, who spoke on behalf of the graduates, stated that they sincerely believe they will be successful with the outstanding education they have received from GAU and noted that they owe much to the university and their teachers.

The ceremony ended with the granting of diplomas for those who had completed Undergraduate, Post-graduate and Doctorate degrees, the graduates throwing their caps in the air and this was then followed by a splendid fireworks display.
