The Girne American University (GAU) hosted the 11th Maritime Training Council (DEK - Denizcilik Eğitim Konseyi) meeting.

At the 2-day meeting, which was held at the GAU Millennium Building Senate Congress Centre, the decisions which were taken at the meeting held on 3rd March 2014 were re-evaluated and council working groups were formed. In the last session of the 11th Meeting of the Maritime Training Council, reports of the working groups were presented and documents were prepared to be submitted to the authorities of YÖK and the Transport, Maritime and Communications Ministry (UDHB) of Turkey.

The official opening of the 11th Maritime Training Council which was held at the GAU Millenium Senate Congress Centre commenced with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. The Chairman of the DEK Coordination Committee - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ender Asyalı, GAU Maritime and Transportation School Director - Captain Efdal Safdel, Ministry of the UDH, General Manager of Marine and Inland Waters Regulation – Cemalettin Şevli, GAU Rector – Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner, Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of the UDH - Suat Hayri Aka, and YÖK Executive Board Member - Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay all gave speeches at the meeting.

Plaques were presented to the President of the DEK coordination committee – Assoc. Dr. Ender Asyalı, Ministry of the UDH, the General Manager of Marine and Inland Waters Regulation – Cemalettin Şevli, Deputy Undersecretary of UDH Ministry - Suat Hayri Aka and YÖK Executive Board Member - Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay by GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner at the end of the speeches.
