A celebration program was held as “April 21-28 Midwifery Week” at Girne American University (GAU).

The program commenced with the opening speeches of Dean of GAU Faculty of Health Sciences - Assoc. Prof. Dr Tülin Bodamyalı and the Head of GAU Faculty of Health Sciences - Assist. Prof. Dr. Neşegül Orçun. Students of the GAU Faculty of Health Sciences and Doctors and Midwives also attended the program.

At the celebration program of “April 21-28 Midwifery Week.”, presentations were given by Higher Midwife Sultan Yalçın “The Historical Development of Midwifery Profession up to Today”, Dr. Mehmet Zeki Avcı “Health of Mothers and Children in our Country and the World”, Assist. Prof. Dr. Neşegül Orçun “Theme of International Midwifery Union”.

The complexities of the midwifery profession and what a midwife has to do was told in the presentations and it has been emphasized how a midwife should communicate with mothers and the importance of the mothers being in touch with the midwife from the start of the pregnancy.

The program ended following the presentations.
