Environmental Clean-up Activities for "Clean Future for Kids"
The Girne American University (GAU) who has declared the 2013/2014 Academic Year as "the Year of Environment and Nature”, organized an environmental clean-up event under the slogan of "Clean Future for Kids" as part of the 23rd April National Sovereignty and Children's Day activities.
The "Clean Future for Kids" event which was organized with the co-operation of GAU Environment and Nature, Research and Application Centre and the GAU Faculty of Education, was held with significant participation at the Boğaz picnic area.
GAU CEO and Vice Chancellor of the Board - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi made a statement at the event in the Boğaz picnic area, and stated that they performed a delightful environmental organization with the co-operation of GAU Environment and Nature, Research and Application Centre and the GAU Faculty of Education as part of the 23rd April events. Vehbi thanked the GAU Board of Administrators, the lecturers and students of the Faculty of Education for attending the event, and stated that - “Together, we can keep our island clean, protect our environment and leave a sustainable environment to our children and young people. We want to give this message today".
Vehbi who stressed that they planned to do an activity for youngsters on May 19th, stated that they want to emphasize the importance of having habitable nature of the landscape and a clean sustainable environment for future generations by creating awareness with their activities.
Vehbi stated that as a result of the cleaning operation nearly a thousand garbage bags emerged in the picnic area and finished his speech with pointing out the importance of a university co-operating with a non-governmental organization as a volunteer without any expectation to contribute to the environment by cleaning.
The "Clean Future for Kids" event which was organized with the co-operation of the GAU Environment and Nature, Research and Application Center and the GAU Faculty of Education, came to an end by transferring the garbage to the refuse truck.
