Social responsibility project by students of American College

Art Class Students of Girne American College, which provides education under the Girne American University (GAU) Group of Schools, performed restoration and beautification work for the under 18 year old students at Girne Rehabilitation Centre.

Paint renovation and drawing of fairytale characters for the under 18 year old students at Girne Rehabilitation Centre was carried out by students of the American College as part of the restoration and beautification social responsibility project.

The Director of the Girne Special Education Centre – Musa Saygın and the Art teacher of Girne American College - Ilknur Düzen made a statement at the end of the restoration and beautification work at the rehabilitation centre.

The Director of Girne Special Education Centre – Musa Saygın expressed his satisfaction about the restoration and art work of the students of the American College which has supported the centre with social responsibility projects and workshops for many years.

Saygın who emphasized that students who have special needs and receive special education were often excluded from society and stated that – "Sadly, I must state that our school is an isolated place outside of the community. We encourage mainstreaming programs in order to break this isolated structure. We want social players and American College, Girne American University, as well as other schools, to come and visit the students, to do joint activities and socialize with them at the Special Education Centre. Such actions are priceless. For this reason, we are able to prove that there is no need to separate the special needs students from the community with the joint painting work our students did with the American College students. It is revealed that the students who go to the rehabilitation centre have the right like everyone to live the same life."

The Director of Kyrenia Special Education Centre – Musa Saygın, who thanked the teachers and students of Girne American College at the end of his speech, stated that this association is beneficial not only for their own students, but also for the American college students and they give to the students the chance to re-evaluate the world and to re-create their self-perception.

Art teacher of the Girne American College - Ilknur Düzen who made a statement after the Director of Kyrenia Special Education Centre – Musa Saygın, stated that they were happy to be involved in this project and that there is no place that art cannot reach.

Düzen, who expressed that their aim is to never let the rehabilitation students forget that they are part of society as well, stated that - “We intend to further expand their dreams with colours as well as to make them happy. We are pleased to pioneer this. I invite everyone to take part voluntarily by coming to the rehabilitation centre and helping to carry out this project which was launched by students of the American College."
