GAU Development Seminar - Psychology Days

Students of Girne American University Department of Psychology and Psychological Counseling and Guidance (PCG), held a development seminar as part of the Psychology Days events.

The opening speech of the seminar, which was held in the International Congress Hall Spectrum Congress Centre, was given by GAU Head of the Department of Psychology – Dr. Aysın Sinal, who stated in his speech that words like Psychology and PDR mean nothing unless they work together and it is important for University Departments to organize events such as this and act together. Further in his speech, Sinal introduced the professions of Psychology and PDR with examples and emphasized that these two professions are inseparable and the result of their collaboration will be more efficient.

GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators – Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi stated in his speech that many events like this have been organized and this was the 3rd event which had been organized by students as part of the Psychology Days under GAU. Vehbi stated that many speeches of distinguished guest lecturers from the department of Psychology and PDR would be given during this event and recommended that the students make the most of this opportunity. Vehbi, who wanted students to contribute to the development process with these organizations, stressed that people looked differently at psychology and guidance services in the past and that there is a heavy demand for these professions with many people seeking this help. Vehbi stated that the students who attended the seminar will provide support for younger children to adults once they start their working life and that they are the reason this organization was successful and he congratulated them sincerely.

At the seminar, Prof. Dr. Cigdem Kagıtcıbası, who is the Dean of Sciences and Arts Faculty at Koç University, made the first speech entitled "The Positive Development of the Children and Adolescents in Culture and Family Environment", Psychotherapist - Pelin Aksu – “Development Period to the Holistic Perspective”, Psychotherapist Mustafa Özay - "EMDR", Eliz Volkan - "Place of Neurosciences in Psychology ", Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Ataman - "Before and After of Inclusive Education IEP", Assist. Prof. Dr. Oğuzhan Kırdok - "Systemic Psychotherapy", Dr. M. Hilmi Eren - “Duties of PCG’ists and Psychologists on the Identification and Guidance of Individuals with Special Needs” The presentations were made in this order at the 2-day seminar.

Students who attended were given a certificate of participation at the end of the seminar.
