Girne American University has signed a co-operation protocol with the Foreign Press Association with the aim of developing and reinforcing relations.

The protocol signing ceremony, which was held in Girne American University Cyprus-Girne Campus Rectorate Chancellor’s Office, was attended by Chair - Arslan Mengüç, Member of the Board and Organization Secretary - Ömer Bilge and Member of the Board and Financial Secretary Taner Gönül on behalf of the Foreign Press Association and GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi and GAU Head of Public Relations Department - Assist. Prof. Dr. Remziye Terkan on behalf of GAU.

The Chair of the Foreign Press Association - Arslan Mengüç stressed in his speech about the hardship he encountered during his study years overseas and emphasized the opportunity provided by GAU towards easing accessibility for the young members of FPA to education. Also Mengüç wished that the beneficiary members will also benefit for the country as well. Finally Mengüç stressed his appreciation to GAU for providing such scholarships. FPA Member of the Board and Organization Secretary and also the TRNC Representative of Hürriyet Journal - Ömer Bilge stated that GAU is the first university to be established in Cyprus and that he has participated in the opening of the overseas campuses in person. Bilge also underlined that GAU provides education in 3 continents and it must further expand to 5 continents due to the fact that GAU is a global university that inhabits a size greater than Cyprus. Bilge stressed that the opportunity provided by GAU is unique and emphasized that the members of FPA must indeed benefit from this unique opportunity. Bilge finally also gave his appreciation to GAU for providing such scholarships. Member of the Board and Financial Secretary of FPA - Taner Gönül emphasized that GAU and FPA have also co-operated in the past but this was not official. Gönül emphasized that education and media are pieces of a whole and that the officialization of the co-operation will reinforce the relations. Gönül finally stated appreciation to GAU for its support on behalf of FPA.

GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi thanked the Chair and the Members of the Board of FPA for the signing of the protocol and stressed that the members of FPA are now part of GAU and that the long-lasting co-operation with FPA is now established officially under the signed protocol. Vehbi thanked FPA and its members for the long years of support and emphasized the support of GAU to the press. Vehbi finally stated that the scholarships will be benefited wisely and that the students of GAU Faculty of Communication will have the opportunity to undertake their internship programs under FPA thus developing themselves further.
