The Girne American University Senate has announced its support of the decision of Eastern Mediterranean University Senate to “close down the betting offices”.

GAU Rector - Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner further stated that the decision of EMU Senate is rather precise and GAU will provide sound support in favour of this decision. Öner underlined that the GAU Senate decision favours the closing down of the betting offices due to those similar businesses discrediting the image of the country. Öner emphasized that specifically students are adversely affected in the economical and socio-cultural areas and Öner also stressed that relevant amendments must be undertaken swiftly on betting offices.

Öner, “The Most Economical Resource of the TRNC is Universities”

Öner, stressing that the most significant economical resource of the TRNC are students, also mentioned that students from various countries return to their homeland as cultural envoys. Therefore businesses like betting offices are discrediting the image of the country and undermining the promotional aspects.

Furthermore Öner emphasized the statement of EMU Senate with regard to the discrediting significance of the betting offices in relation to the image of the country and that the aim of reaching 100,000 students is hard to achieve if this problem continues. Therefore, the relevant authorities must observe and generate solutions in this respect. Öner finally stated that GAU will further pursue this issue and that the GAU Science Family will continuously reinforce to achieve an image of education and science in the TRNC.
