Cypriot Greeks Demonstrated Their True Colours
1st of ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPLICATIONS SYMPOSIUM SCIENTISTS ARE PRECLUDED BY GREEK CYPRIOT ADMINISTRATION
Greek Cypriot Administration have shown their true colours by using efforts of denigration to preclude the holding of the 1st of International Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Applications Symposium” which to held by Girne American University Faculty of Engineering.
It has been reported that endeavours have been made to preclude participant scientists for the Symposium which is to be held in GAU-Girne Campus on 6-8 November 2013, by immaterial statements of the illegal status of the TRNC and a region under occupation, by the South Cyprus Greek Administration via letters of denigration and jactitation.
GAU CEO and Vice-Chancellor of the Board of Administrators - Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi explained further;
Vehbi: “We must Unite and Integrate to build the TRNC as an Island of Education”
“A few days ago the 9th European meeting of IACBE, one of the most important Accreditors of America, was held in Girne American University. Following the decision of holding this meeting, the participant academicians were under severe world-wide pressure and threat. We have conducted critical diplomatic fights. We persuaded the majority and held the IACBE European meeting at GAU with success.
Moreover GAU General Secretary - Assist. Prof. Dr. Sualp Davut was elected as the General Secretary of IACBE. Indeed a significant duty in means of representing the TRNC in America.
In the near future a significant conference on Artificial Intelligence is to be held by the GAU Faculty of Engineering. Many important scientists from all over the world are expected to participate. There are over 100 applications up to now and it is estimated to reach up to 150-200. We have contacted each academician we have decided upon individually and announced those who will attend as speakers on the website.
At the beginning all academicians were convinced, via groundless mail, that the TRNC is unrecognized or under occupation and it will hold significant dangers for them to arrive in North Cyprus. This was followed by misleading information with regard to the supposed unrecognized status of GAU and the supposed Greek domain upon which GAU is built. Nevertheless we have proved these supposed claims wrong. Girne American University is not constructed upon Greek domain. Following all of this they harassed and threatened via telephone. Especially supposed Australian Higher Commissioner of Cypriot Greek Administration has realized a threat call in person to the professor who was to arrive here. The threat reported to include; “If you go there we will make sure that you will lose your position in university”. They are further reported to have harassed the Professor by saying that they will conduct political correspondence and claim accusations and keep the Professor under threat. We of course will grab the bull by the horns. We will not accept all of this. Hundreds will be participating and one or two may be convinced not to participate, nevertheless our priority is a non-political and non-language, ethnic and religion orientated environment for science and academia.
Even though the TRNC is facing minor political disadvantages, GAU is a perfectly recognized University. There are students from 79 countries in GAU. Students are more than happy to be educated in GAU. Following their graduation they have no problem returning to their home countries and ratifying their diplomas. I do want to add that there has been a campaign held in South Cyprus recently for those academicians who are to attend Scientific Meetings and Conferences in Cyprus and also in respect of the recognition of our University. As I observe this there is an increase with regard to such activities. We must unite to be able to conduct the struggle against the opposition. Unfortunately, recently we show more effort in disputes amongst each other. This kind of approach is heartbreaking. We must unite as an island to empower against overseas and increase the number of students to create an island of education. We must orientate our ambitions to hold hundreds and thousands of academicians from all over the world to attend Scientific Conferences. This can only be achieved through unity and integration.”
The President of the Symposium and GAU Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zafer Ağdelen has reported that despite the efforts of the Greek Administration to preclude and denigrate, there is immense participation expected for the 1st International Engineering Artificial Intelligence and Applications Symposium which is to be held under three main categories:
