Girne American University Marine School Principal Ocean Going Captain and Transport Administration Engineer Captain Efdal Safel promoted the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) at the International Mermaid Congress that was held in Istanbul.

37 universities from 26 countries of the world attended the workshop, which was held for the first time in the world and which was organized with the leadership of Turkish Marine Students Association (DODER) and Piri Reis University. While 21 universities attended the workshop from Turkey, TRNC was represented by GAU.

Captain Safel, who promoted Cyprus on behalf of GAU, represented our land. The workshop, which was held for STCW to take its last shape, was held at Istanbul Ataköy Sheraton Hotel on May 21-25.

GAU Marine School Principal Eftal Safel was given a certificate for attending the workshop, which was supported by Istanbul 2010 European Culture Capital Project as well.
