Devastating Loss of Press World and GAU

Chief editor of the Cyprus Observer Newspaper and Press consultant of Girne American University(GAU), qualified journalist Ali Yalıman, passed away.

The announcement about the devastating loss of press world was made by Girne American University Chancellor’s office. In the statement, they expressed the sadness of losing the qualified journalist and they conveyed the condolences message to the press world, his family and to his loved ones.

He was a chief editor of the Cyprus Observer Newspaper since 2011 and also was Press consultant of GAU. Yalıman earned reputation with the Cyprus Newspaper which was publishing in English. Specially he had great reputation in English community and in general amongst all foreigners with his right and principled publishing and reporting understanding. It is stated that, he made an important contribution with his knowledge and experience for the first Russian newspaper which was published in TRNC. Also been stated that, he will be remembered with respect for his production of news and state of art work.

In the statement that made by his family stated that, his funeral will be held on Monday, 29th of April 2013 after the noon prayer that will be realized in Girne Nurettin Ersin Paşa mosque.

Who is Ali Yalıman?He was born in Eskişehir, on January 26, 1944. He studied English Literature and Language at Istanbul University. Yalıman was the student of Prof.Mina Urgan, Prof.Cevat Çapan, Akşit Göktürk, Berna Moran, Tatyana Moran and Prof. Gwynn Williams. Yalıman made translation of a great number of books and encyclopedias and proofreading and editorship. He also prepared English education books, CD and tapes.

Yalıman worked as a journalist at Milliyet in 1973, where Abdi İpekçi ran editorship. Yalıman worked at different newspapers in Turkey, Germany and TRNC. He administered the Culture-art, tourism, foreign news editor, representative of foreign countries, columnist and editorial office. His articles, studies, columns and interviews published in Turkey, England, Finland and TRNC. At Marmara University where he was an instructor, he instructed lessons on ‘communication techniques’, in London School of Public Relations he also instructed lessons on Public Relations of Media.

He was the chief editor of the Cyprus Observer Newspaper and Press consultant of Girne American University(GAU) since 2011, after the editorship of Cyprus Times newspaper.

Ali Yalman was the representative of Recognized Classical Music Journal Andante and he also knew English and German. He was living in TRNC since 1999 with his wife Gülseren Sadak who was a concert pianist and Yalıman was also the Member of Foreign Press Association Discipline Board.
