Founding President Rauf Denktaş was commemorated in 1st anniversary of his death at ceremony organized by GAU.


The commemoration ceremony which organized by GAU Rectorate, Faculty of Education and Rauf Raif Denktaş Researches Center had commenced after a moment of silence and the Turkish Anthem in Millennium Complex Senate Congress Center  at 09:00am.


The activity held was contributed by the life documentary of Denktaş, speeches which reflect the meaning and the importance of the day and poems were read.


DP General President Serdar Denktaş the son of late Denktaş and his grandchildren Rauf and Can Denktaş, Undersecretary of TR Lefkoşa Embassy Cem Şahinkaya, Provisional District Governor of Girne Gürkan Kaya, Chief of Police of Girne Hüseyin Yeşildağlı, YÖDAK (Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council) President Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Bıçak, GAU CEO and  Vice-Chancellor of Administrators Board Dr. Asım Vehbi, GAU Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner, Deans, GAU Academicians and students have attended the commemoration ceremony.


Denktaş “My Father as Great Statesman had borne in a Small Village of Cyprus Island to Succeed as the Leader of the Turkish World”DP General President Serdar Denktaş has stated that Dektaş whom a great statesman had borne in a small village of Cyprus ısland to succeed as the Leader of the Turkish World was commemorated with longing in first ceremony of his death and also Serdar Denktaş gave voice to his appreciations to GAU for the organization prepared.


Serdar Denktaş had also uttered that it was both easy and very hard to explain about Late Denktaş and also emphasized that he will try to explain Denktaş to those youngsters of new generation whom hadn’t had the possibility to know him rather than those whom worked with him.


Serdar Denktaş also reminded that Denktaş whom significantly showed importance to young generation had also informed the youth in every possible moment about where and how the problem between the Cypriots Turks and Greeks had begun and about the current situation and also he also relized that youth were not sufficiently enlightened about the situation and he was very sad to see that this was the case during the Annan Plan as well.


Serdar Denktaş has stated that during his discussion with Rauf Denktaş, he underlined that despite this situation was very upsetting him he never showed anger and then had had uttered to Serdar Dentaş that; “ No one has ever thought that this issue would last this long. Now those youth who neither knows not about the past nor not learns do recognize me as a leader whom not favors negotiation in the state with the support of the world. The fact is Greeks’ aim to ‘Hellenize’ the island which youth are not really aware of”.


Serdar Denktaş while showing effort to interpret Denktaş to the youth has explained that; It is not only his duty to explain about the Cyprus history, the sound linkage between the Anatolians and the self-determination efforts, but also everyone’s.


Serdar Denktaş has also reminded Rauf Denktaş was a great leader whom conveyed his thought to Turkish Cypriots until his last breath, reminded that they are the establishers of a state and also confirming his word before his death, has also recorded that Denktaş loved his people and nation.


Öner “The Greatest Monument of Denktaş is the TRNC”
GAU Rector Prof. Yıldırım Öner also stated that the greatest monument of Rauf Denktaş whom a great leader for his effort, heroism, academic background, charisma, political geniuses, sound stand and ability of convenience in the struggle for existence of the Turkish community is the TRNC and added on that “Our duty is to convey his perceptualized principles and politics which molded with his endless vision”.


Dean of GAU Education Faculty and Director of Rauf Raif Denktaş Researches Center Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saadettin Yıldız has commemorated Denktaş with respect, longing and thankfulness in his first anniversary of death and added that he will convey the life of late Denktaş to future generations with all respect.


Teaching Staff of GAU Education Faculty Demiray Doğasal has emphasized that he commemorated- the founder of TRNC, the great leader of the Turkish world, the human and nation lover heart- the Founding President Denktaş with respect, love and thankfulness.  Doğasal has also informed the participant about the life of Denktaş whom lived his 64 of 88 years of life in political struggle.
