Historical Witness Meets The City Again
Historical Grand Hammam- one of the important cultural assets of the Ottoman in Cyprus-which restoration was completed in 3 years with the contributions of the Foundation Directorate and UNDP has re-served after the organized official ceremony.
The Grand Hammam which witnessed the history of capital Lefkoşa and memories of Lefkoşa that began giving service again with the project which was also supported by the civil society organizations was shown great interest by the people of Nicosia for the opening ceremony.
2nd President of TRNC Republic Mehmet Ali Talat, Minister of Tourism, Environment Agriculture Ünal Üstel, Ministry of Social Security Şerife Ünverdi, Embassy Undersecretary of the Turkish Republic Cem Şakir Kaya, Spokesman of the USA Embassy Andrew Schofer,Mayor of Dipkarpaz Mehmet Demirci, General Director to Directorate of Foundations Mustafa Kemal Kaymakamzade, Officials from USAID and UNDP Kim Foukaris, Elizabeth Kassinis, Chancellor of the GAU Board of Trustees Memduh Erdal, Founder Rector and Chancellor of GAU Serhat Akpınar, Asım Vehbi, Vice Chancellor Cemile Esenyel, Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner, Head of Health, Culture and Sports Türkay Akpınar, GAU Cultural Heritage Administration members and academic staff have attended the ceremony. Director of GAU Applied Social Studies Academy and International Tourism Education Board Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmet Esenyel has made the opening speech of the ceremony.
Serhat Akpınar, Mustafa Kemal Kaymakamzade, Minister of Tourism, Environment and Agriculture Ünal Üstel, Ministry of Social Security Şerife Ünverdi and 2nd President of TRNC Mehmet Ali Talat made opening speeches. After their speech Historical Grand Turkish Hammam has been put to service again.
Government officials thanked Directorate of Foundations and UNDP for the contributions of restoration and they also thanked GAU for the vision which helped putting The Turkish Hammam into service again. After the opening, government officials were informed about the Historical Grand Turkish Hammam by GAU Cultural Heritage Management officials.
During the opening ceremony live performances of Sufi music and Cypriot Turkish Folkloric tunes took place.
