GAU was the only university that attended to 20 July Yacht Rally which is organized every year by Turkish Cypriot Sailing and Boat Federation. GAU attended the 20 July Yacht Rally with the education boat of Maritime Faculty. The GAU Committee consisted of academicians, students and GAU TV and also GAU had a chance to make official contacts.

In the traditional 20 July Yacht Rally, the flag of Northern Cyprus was given to District Governorship of Aydıncık and the flag of Turkish Republic was given to the authorizes in the morning of 20 July in Landing Beach.

The Federation authorises gave the memorial plates to the participants and GAU Committee gave the 25th anniversary year plates to the district authorizers.

The Education Boat of Maritime Faculty had a chance to practice for 4 days on the route of TRNC-Alanya-Aydıncık and gathered the great attention of yacht owners, tourists and citizens of the district. The Captain Efdal Safel showed students simulation, radar, using the night vision device, reading the map and gave information about the deep-sea travel.

GAU was the only university that attended the duty of Dawn which was organized for the first time by the Union of External Media. The Faculty of Maritime reached the Northern Cyprus at 4 am and gave the flag to authorizers. GAU Academicians and students had their first long sea travel experience and there is a slogan remained after that amazing experience “There is no sea that we cannot cross and there is no harbour we cannot reach”
