Girne American University (GAU) School of Nursing Director Assoc. Dr. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zeki Avcı made statements about the developments in the health sector.

Avcı who talked about health education for prospective Nurse and Midwife students has said “After university, we are trying to improve our students in terms of general culture and world view too. You cannot improve your students by just giving them nursing education, they need to have a world view as well. We also need to instill values such as humanity and love of nature too.”

Avcı has said “Girne American University included European Union Nursing Program in its curriculum 3-4 years ago. In other words, when you look at the content of the diploma from Girne American University, it gives the same lessons given in the European Union. Our diplomas meet the criteria of the European Union. we also made innovations, not just for our nurses for our midwives too. In order to provide better education, we separated the nursing and midwifery courses and provided better quality courses. In addition to the courses, we have renewed the laboratories to be more efficient and a new building was built. We have 5 laboratory rooms and amphitheatres in this building. We have increased the number of teachers according to the number of students. Courses were divided into the laboratory sections to improve the students` practices. In addition to this, our midwives and nurses contribute to the care of the patients through the instructions of the nurses responsible for the department they go under the supervision of the hospitals they visit with the agreements we have made with the Ministry of Health. There, they see the hospital environment and increase their practice.”
