The Girne American University (GAU)’s Department of Turkish Language and Literature’s Asst.Prof.Dr.Erkan Demir, made a statement about the research he did about the place and history of Turkish Coffee in the Turkish Culture.

Asst.Prof.Dr.Erkan Demir, who is a specialist in Turkish Language, by mentioning that Turkish Coffee is part of the Turkish Culture, he also made a statement about the rich history and the past of Turkish Coffee. Mr.Demir mentioned that, Turkish Coffee has it’s own place in our culture and in our lives. There is also a big demand for Turkish Coffee and is consumed in Cyprus too.

Mr.Demir said this about the History of Turkish Coffee; ”Turkish Coffee has become a drink which it’s name has integrated with the Turkish Culture. It has simply become a drink that we have gifted to the world and nowadays, it has become the most popular and most consumed drink in the world.  The coffee plant’s homeland is Ethiopia, it doesn’t grow in Turkey. When it was discovered, it became a big for the Sufi dervishes.”

Mr.Erkan Demir also mentioned that later on Coffee was introduced and flourished using the pilgrimage roots to other countries. “Today, the modern meaning of Turkish Coffee was brought by the Turks and got it’s name like this” said Mr.Demir, who mentioned that the preparation of Turkish Coffee is very large.

Mr.Demir mentioned that, a good Turkish Coffee needs to be cooked on a high-heat fire and needs to be finely grounded.
