TURKEY CYPRUS RELATIONS ON PERIOD OF REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS AND ITS EFFECTS ON TURKISH POLITICAL LIFE
GAU Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Münevver Kata wrote about Turkey-Cyprus relations and natural resources, strategic importance of island of Cyprus in her “Turkey-Cyprus Relations On Period Of Republic Of Cyprus And Its Effects On Turkish Political Life (1960-1963)” chapter of the book titled “Turkish Political Life: From Ottoman Modernization to Our Day.”
GAU Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Münevver Kata in her chapter has wrote “The Island of Cyprus has housed and was target of multiple civilizations for its geopolitical and natural resources value. Particularly for Turkey, Cyprus carries both strategic and spiritual value. It is observeable that Turkey`s possibility of support from south in event of an attack, alongside also having spiritual bond created by its history. Turkey which was one of the guarantor powers in establishment of Republic of Cyprus has followed events in it closely to both protect its and Turkish peoples interests still living on the island.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Münevver Kata touched upon subject of Turkey–Cyprus relations at the duration of bi-communal Republic of Cyprus in August 16, 1960. Kata said “There will be evaluations on political, militarily, economic, social, and how community relations progressed and its results afterwards of the tree year period of Repulic. In this aspect, the troops sent to the island after the treaty and its records. The research about assignment and documents related to assignment of Nicosia(Lefkoşa) Ambassador of Republic of Turkey itself and subjects like educational specialists sent to the island, written communication and meetings between community leaders and the like work will also be included.”
