Important Announcements From The GAU Career Planning Expert Emrah Adaklı
“Government commonplaces need to be left”
GAU career planning expert Emrah Adaklı answered questions in the television program at Kıbrıs Genç TV, important announcements about higher education of the TRNC were made by Adaklı. Adaklı got across with the biggest problem which is persuading the families; “the child’s talent is of art, but the family want the child to become a lawyer. We need to move away from governmental clichés. Working in government states means having a stable and steady life style, however in the private sector individuals gain a chance to prove themselves to others. Adaklı underlined that GAU is TRNC’s first private university, Turkey’s known foundation university period began in 1985; at the same time period, as the first university of TRNC, GAU had started higher education,” and continued with the following words: “including this period we have left 30 years behind us. Many have been done within the past 30 years and it is a big educational time period for the TRNC. Looking at Europe, 30 years may not be such a long time but speaking for Turkey and Cyprus it is an important time process.”
GAU is developing consistently
Adaklı noted that GAU is developing consistently every passing year it is adding different projects to its own projects and added on that “one of the most important one of these is these is the Canterbury Campus in England. After the Canterbury Campus the USA Washington DC premises were established. After this the Hong Kong campus was established. At the moment the new campus at Moldova has started giving service.”
3 Continents 1 University
“Besides opening the Moldova campus to local community we have also given a chance to our own students, this is the exploration of our higher education saying which is 3 continents 1 university. We have established premises in İstanbul. We have started a new project that many haven’t heard of which is the Susurluk Campus. The planning work will take start in 2017. The GAU will be heard widely in Turkey; explained Adaklı and continued with “students accommodating in the Cyprus campus are subjected to our ‘Study Abroad Program’ for 4 years. The scholarship gained are valid at the campuses here without paying any extra fees they are able to continue their education. The aim to differentiate and teach English just as it can be taught in hometown. We can perceive a lot of difference in students that have just attended for only one year. We submit all these advantages, and our difference from other universities is this.
Career is an endless journey
Adaklı stood strongly on the “career planning” subject in the program, “career in short words is; a process we need to start early in our lives which is an endless journey. We are even considered to be late for the decision making that is done in secondary school. A child that has finished primary school should start taking steps in occupational life nearby their parents. This needs to be injected to children. A child should have a chance to perceive a professional working environment. Regarding communication and the way the system works, the child must gain an experience with in the working environment”, and recorded the following words: “taking a glance at career decisions we are always going to secondary schools and it’s just about 5-6 specific departments that are being chosen. But this isn’t the gist of the particular work. Erstwhile there were serious demands to PDR experts in Turkey. Even if an empty exam sheet was handed in the KPSS exam, the individual would have got assigned. Observing this point now, it is for ease to mention that this demand has been broken down to limits and has even been blocked. There is no logical point in going on for a PDR. Make decisions in different occupational areas. The ultimatum we say to students trying to make their decisions is this: PDR isn’t a department and hasn’t come forward as much as psychology. Psychology graduates have a chance to specialise in different branches. I have always perceived psychology as a higher education level”.
TRNC has a pedagogue gap
There are no pedagogues serving in the TRNC as children psychologists, there are very few experts that can give advice on children development, noted Adaklı and continued remarking that “industrial psychology is forefront in Turkey. Clinical psychology has a massive gap in hospitals. Psychology should be spreaded in the society. Local graduates are of very low amounts, they would only sum up 5 fingers on a hand. Our students generally come from Turkey and abroad. When they graduate they return back to their host country. Glancing at TRNC graduates, they simply take their place within the sector. There are many expert gaps in branches like economics, finance and banking in the TRNC. Staffs are of serious demand within this sector.
Tourism isn’t sufficiently evaluated
Taking a look at tourism, our families have always criticised it for being simple but tourism has a wide educational profile that could be studied. Tourism is a very equipped occupational group. We have tourism secondary schools. But the graduates are moving to different occupations after completing their studies in this branch. Tourism isn’t been put for good use. Take a look at the coastline, serious investors and financiers are constantly visiting. We have a gap in the tourism experts and can’t give service within the subject.”
Tourism deficiency
There is need to study department that there is demand to, noted Adaklı and went on with these words: “we have had deficiency of tourism professionals in secondary schools for years. We need working forces in the tourism sector. For example in the healthcare field there is ergo therapy, families haven’t heard of the name ergo therapy, and therefore they are distant from the subject. They ask what it is. However ergo therapy has become a trend with in the healthcare field of Europe.”
It is possible to start 1-0 ahead
“To move away from the occupational problems after graduation students must prefer departments there are need for within the society and could start 1-0 ahead,” suggested Adaklı, “ what do ergo therapist do? They help our disabled community become ready for working the working environment. They don’t just help the disabled; they also work with children and the elderly. For this reason there are many trend departments. I suggest students make way for these specific departments. There are occupational gaps in many areas of employment. There are surely idealist students, which attend to ask questions and we do as much as we can to help them. We are rapidly continuing career planning in secondary schools. We are guiding many students.”
