VEHBI: “OUR HAPPINESS INDEX IS LOW ALTHOUGH WE ARE LIVING IN A GOOD GEOGRAPHY”

After Kyrenia Research Institue which is connected to Girne American University (GAU) made “Yearly Expectation Survey” public, Vice President of GAU Board of Administrators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi made an important statement about the topic.

Surveys were made last week with 941 people and they were made comparatively with the surveys that were held in 2013 and 2014. In the result, Cypus Turkish community experience a severe decline in their perception of happiness.

GAU Vice President of GAU Board of Administrators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi made an important statement by making a general evaluation about “2016 Yearly Expectation Survey”.

Vehbi said these in his statement;

 “GAE is one of the most important responsibility projects of GAU. They perform researches and works with no thought of personal gain. At the same time, there is an expectation and happiness survey and we have performed this 3^rd time. We wish State Planning Organization and our government made this but unfortunately there are deficiencies in this issue in our country. We have set out 3 years ago for making contribution to this subject.”

 “In the past few days we shared our one survey with precious press members and very striking results showed up once more. One of the most important result is our happiness index is going into a decline. We are living in one of the world’s most beautiful geography; we are living in a fantastic island in the Mediterranean. Although we are governed visionless as to environment, we are in the world’s most beautiful nature. In surveys that were made with people in similar geographies they generally have higher happiness index. However, in our country, in the last 5-6 years political visionless have made our community sad in this direction. The other topic is that Cyprus issue and this issue is also made our community restive. In this topic, whether there will be a solution or won’t be we must continue our way. Our survey unrolled these topics one more time.”

Vehbi indicated that general dissatisfaction showed up and media will carry out necessary regulations with the message that were given with results, related to the survey study that was held about the media topic and he said these;

 “We shared our survey study about the media topic with public opinion without using a name. I think that our study will be a general indicator to our media and there is a message that was given by our community that can bring to reorganize point. I am sure that this message will be received and it will be met. In this issue we will do our best as an academic with our communication faculty.”

Vehbi: “We have no any concerns about the Reliability of GAE’s Survey Studies”

 “We haven’t got any concerns about the reliability of GAE’s survey studies. When we performed survey studies in the past we gave criticisms when some results that weren’t wanted by people and institutions showed up. As our elders say, the tree bearing fruit gets stoned and when you bear fruit you should be ready for those stones. We already ready for those stones and especially we are objective and impartial in these subjects and our community reveal the results.”
