A panel on "Syria Crisis" was held in GAU

The panel on "Syria Crisis", organized by Girne American University (GAU) Faculty of Political Science, attracts an intensive attention. In the panel Assoc. Dr. Hüseyin Işıksal presented his presentation on "Political Chaos in Syria: ISIS and Turkish Foreign Policy", Asst.Prof.Dr. Enver Gülseven presented his presentation on "The European Union`s Role in Syrian Crisis" and also Emete Gözügüzelli presented her presentation on "The Constitution of 2012 and the Turkmen".

The roots of the crisis dates back to old times

Lecturer of Department of International Relations Assoc. Hüseyin Işıksal, who made a speech named "Political Chaos in Syria: ISIS and Turkish Foreign Policy", stated that the roots of the crisis in Syria dates back to old times and stressing that it cannot be considered separately from the issue of legitimacy in the Middle East, he expressed that the problem should not just be seen as Assad-Opposition and ISIS danger.

The lines between the public and executives

Stating that the most important reasons of why the state system and authority in the Middle East collapsed was because of the gradually thickening of the lines between the folks and executives, corruption of the state administration and emergence of religion, ethnic roots, and tribal identity instead of the losing legitimacy of state identity, Assoc. Dr. Işıksal, later explained the causes of the crisis in Syria, Hafez and Bashar al-Assad period and the process of the emergence of ISIS.

Turkey should play an active role

Assoc. Dr. Hüseyin Işıksal, who also mentioned the failure of the Turkish Foreign Policy in Syria in the last part of the presentation, stated that thinking that the Assad regime would collapse quickly in Syria, thinking that a fast and stable regime will be established instead of the regime that will be demolished, predicting that it will be a regime that would be more democratic than Assad regime and an opposition as a whole and not calculating the political and economic dimensions of the refugee crisis which will be created with the civil war in Syria, is a serious problem. He also stated at the end of his speech that Turkey should play an active role in the direction of ending the Sunni-Shi-i war which has formed in the area and tried to be deepened.
