GAU has hosted many events in 2015

Girne American University (GAU) Founding Rector and Chancellor of Board of Administrators Serhat Akpınar, stating that 2015 was a chock full year with academic and administrative staffs’ contributions to the art and science, expressed that "I was proud of hosting opinion leaders, who are leading in the international arena, in GAU campus with many of the activities we held."

Akpınar, who pointed out to the activities performed in the context of "Year of Peace and Health" in 2015, stated that "We`ve had the pleasure to host opinion leaders and peace activists from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and listen to their experiences. We drew UESCO`s attention with two separate events we have realized in 2015, which was declares as "International Year of Light" in the honor of the 100th Anniversary of the publication of Albert Einstein`s Theory of Relativity."

Art related activities

Stressing that with the contributions of GAU Performing Arts Faculty, they create a chance to watch the famous "Unconnected" show of the world-renowned dancer Mafalda Deville and her group, Akpınar stated that "As a successful initiative of our students, we have held the first TEDxGAU event in our campus with the theme "Reshaping". As usual, we have hosted a large number of academics and scientists in our university in the context of International Artificial Intelligence Applications and INFER International Symposium on Applied Economics and Finance."

Active event programs will continue

Expressing that with the declaration of 2015-2016 academic year as Human and Child Rights year and  together with many faculty members they have hosted a large number of events, Akpınar stressed that "I am sure that our active event program will continue  in 2016." and stated the followings: "In November, First International Cooperation and Investment Summit, which was hosted by our university and in our universities leadership, with the cooperation of International Association of Diplomats and European Businessmen Club and under the auspices of TRNC Prime Minister Ömer Kalyoncu, brought together more than 400 participants from Moldova, Germany, France, Egypt, China and Kazakhstan and business leaders and academics to explore the investment potential on the island which is advancing towards the peace process. In 2015, we have welcomed Manilal Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, as the keynote speaker of the Sustainable Peace and the Business Symposium, which was organized with the collaborations of our Istanbul Campus.

GAU`s sister university AUC

Expressing that they had an effective entrance to the new academic year with the exhibition named No:3 that was held in the Cyprus American University, sister university of GAU, where the works of many artist from Girne American University was displayed and which shed light on the lives of the prominent figures in the history of Nicosia, GAU Founding Rector Serhat Akpinar, stressed that GAU badminton team achieved third place in Turkey Interuniversity Superliga by demonstrating outstanding achievement and stated that ""GAU Male Table Tennis team came in second place in Turkey Interuniversity Table Tennis League and in Turkey Uni league, GAU Fencing team came in third place in Turkey Championship and GAU Chess Set became our pride  by winning the third place in  TRNC Universities Championships, we also expect the championship title from GAU Basketball team, which will play their final match next week."

Objectives in 2016

Serhat Akpınar, who explained the objectives foreseen by The Girne American University for 2016, stressed that "We will see that the International Diplomatic Academy will gain an asset structure under the auspices of Cyprus American University and GAU Istanbul Campus. We are planning to start the education of the first students of Diplomatic School in September 2016." Akpınar also stated the followings: "During Peace Building and Diploma Senior Certificate educations, the students will have the opportunity to have their education one week in Cyprus, one week in Turkey and one week in America. Another exciting development will be the opening of the AUC Near East Academy and Ottoman Library that will shed light on our cultural heritage, which will be established within the scope of Cyprus American University. We will initiate the formation process of our Global Office that is intended to give direction to all our foreign attempts to increase the strength of our competition order. On the other hand we are negotiating with a number of new partners that are wishing to implement the American College program in motherland Turkey. Our goal is to see that many American college campuses are spread all around Turkey at the end of 2016.

Real Estate Development Enterprises

Emphasizing in his speech that they will be laying the foundation for American College new campus and Beş Parmaklar Project with a ceremony in the upcoming months, GAU Chancellor of Board of Administrators Serhat Akpınar stated that "We will see that a new student dormitory project will be starting in addition to the opening of Smarthealth Complex. In addition to the renovation and restoration of the historical sites in Nicosia with the cooperation of Nicosia Turkish Municipality, we will take action with the vision of creating living spaces for our students and give life to the Municipal Theatre building project. In 2016, we will witness the opening of the GAU Karpaz Campus and we will also be spending our energy to the starting of the GAU Güzelyurt Campus and AUC Medical Sciences Complex projects.
