Respect Walk for ATA from GAU
GAU academics will hold Respect Walk to Canakkale Prisoners Cave, on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, by the reason of 77th death anniversary of Great Leader Atatürk.
GAU Cyprus Research Centre Director Prof. Dr. Ulvi Keser stated the followings in his statement about the walk:
A Respect Walk for Ata will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, by the reason of 77th death anniversary of Great Leader Atatürk. Canakkale Captive Cave is a cave in Beşparmak, where Turkish prisoners of war, that were taken captive in Canakkale, brought to the Cyprus Island by the British and were held in prison camps opened in Karakol region in Famagusta, hide after they escaped from the camps during the periods 1916-1920. Captive groups of 3-5 people hiding in this cave, with the assistance of Turkish Cypriots, went to Girne coasts through Akatu (Tatlısu) Strait and then from here, they have gone to Anatolia.
Keser, who stated in his statement that "Canakkale Prisoners Cave is a historic cave, where a total of 30 hiking / climbing was made last year and again last year, in order to gain the cave to TRNC tourism, history and speleology, English / Turkish explanatory panels were placed to Besparmak`s, highway road signs from Ercan-Famagusta road junction until the Ergenekon village and various path determinants in the mountains was arranged and the paths were cleared by the GAU Cyprus Research Centre.", stated that projects related to this cave by GAU KAM would continue in the periods ahead.
