Girne American University (GAU) Department of Music Teaching Special Talent entrance examination is held on Friday, July 10.

In the statement made by GAU it was recorded that the purpose of the tutorials held before the exam are to prepare students for the talent examination, and also the followings were stated:

In this tutorial candidates will gain skills like musical dictation, solfege, decipher, recognizing the sounds with tones and name, hearing the sounds as melodic and harmonic, repeating melody and rhythm and using the sounds correctly.

The purpose of the meeting before the exam is to familiarize the candidates with the department professors they will be working together with during the training process, to chat with them and to find out any information and to consult about the Music Teaching program. 

Talent Examination

In the information given regarding the talent examination, which will be held on Monday and Tuesday, July 13-14, the followings were stated:

“Measurement and evaluation will be based on full 100 points in the talent examination. However, the instrument examination will be calculated separately and will be evaluated over full 100 points.”

According to this:

1- Repeating 5 different sounds, that will be given individually, with the syllable "na" will be requested from the candidates. (5 points)

2- Repeating 5 pieces of dual sounds, which will be played at the same time, with the syllable "na" separately and what intervals they are, will be asked. (10 points)

3- Repeating 3 sound chords, which will be played at the same time, with the syllable “na" separately, will be requested. (12 points)

4- Repeating a melody, which will be played, with the syllable "na", will be requested. (10 points)

5- Reading an 8 measured tonal solfege piece, which will be given, as deciphered. (22 points)

6-  Candidates will be asked to sing any song, ballad or anthem that have been selected by them, to show the candidates ability to use their voice, the quality of their sound, their sound quality, machinability of their sound and their tonal feeling. (11 points)

7- Dictation: At Modal or Tonal versus, an 8 measured dictation piece is played and the candidates are asked to write it. (NOTE: Dictation exams are done collectively.) (30 points)

Instrumental Talent: To determine the individual instrumental level, candidates will be asked to play two separate works belonging to different eras (Baroque, Classical etc.,) between 3-5 minutes. (100 points)!

At the statement, where it was expressed that at the end of the talent examination, the success point of the candidate will be calculated by dividing the number of members to the sum of the points awarded to the candidates by the commission members, it was stated that "According to the general points calculated, the candidates are ranked and starting from the highest score, by the number of quota, the candidates passing the talent entrance examination gain right to enroll to Girne American University Music Teaching Department.”

It was stated at the statement that the candidates, who will be participating in the examination, should be TRNC citizen and also they will be able to use the scholarships they have earned at the GAU 2015 Scholarship and Placement Examination.

It was recorded that the date of the scholarship examination is on June 6, 2015, Time: 10:00.
