İrsen KÜÇÜK : “The first building of GAU will be TRNC’s second consulate in İstanbul’’

The first building of GAU Istanbul Campus was inaugurated with the participation of İrsen Küçük, the Prime Minister of TRNC.

Serhat Akpınar, the Founding Rector and Board Chairman of GAU stated that he was proud to bring GAU family’s 27 years of knowledge to their motherland.

Girne American University added one more to its global campuses and educational centres with its ‘‘A cross-continental University One Continent One University’’ mission and internationalization in higher education vision.

Following Cyprus, England, Singapore and USA campuses, the first education building of GAU’s fifth campus was opened with a magnificent ceremony.

During the opening ceremony where top government officials of Cyprus and Turkey were at present, the TRNC Prime Minister İrsen Küçük, İstanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, GAU Founding Rector and Board Chairman Serhat Akpınar, GAU Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner and GAU’s 2003 graduate Arda Kutsal made a speech.

GAU Founding Rector and Board Chairman Serhat Akpınar stated that this was an historic moment for the GAU family.

İRSEN KÜÇÜK: “GAU WİLL BE THE SECOND CONSULATE OF TRNC”

The Prime Minister İrsen Küçük expressed his gratitude to be in Turkey and stated that TRNC has made a great progress in higher education. Küçük also announced that the foundation of the GAU Karpaz Campus is to be laid on the 8th of May and added that he believes GAU, with its 27 years of success, will continue to show success in İstanbul as well. The Prime Minister emphasized that although there is an active consulate of TRNC in İstanbul, GAU will be the second TRNC consulate in the city.

The Prime Minister referred to the significance of GAU’s presence among the 176 universities in Turkey with its fund of knowledge.

İrsen Küçük; ‘‘We already have a consulate in İstanbul. Now the second one is opening. And that is the Girne American University. GAU is advancing its personnel. I wish success to GAU Board of trustees and the Rector for these initiatives’’.

Following his speech, the Prime Minister İrsen Küçük was presented with a plaquet by Memduh Erdal, the Chairman of GAU Board of trustees.

AKPINAR: “THİS İS AN HİSTORİC MOMENT FOR GAU FAMİLY’’

Serhat Akpınar acknowledged those who attended the first education centre’s opening in İstanbul and stated that this is an historic moment for the GAU family. Akpınar indicated that GAU was established as the first university in TRNC 27 years ago with the council of ministers decision and that it is now in the motherland after 27 years. ‘‘In the present instance, GAU is getting ready to take its place in Turkey’s higher education system and to accomplish its first education building.’’

AKPINAR: “WE BELİEVE THAT GAU WİLL MAKE A GREAT CONTRİBUTİON’’

Akpınar stated that with its campuses spread over 3 continents, GAU is preparing to take its place as a global university in the motherland Turkey despite all kinds of ambargos layed by the Southern Cyprus, and indicated that he believes GAU will contribute significantly to the internationalization process of Turkey’s higher education.

AKPINAR: ‘‘THE PROCESS STARTS TODAY: GAU WİLL BE A FOUNDATİON UNİVERSİTY İN THE MOTHERLAND’’

Akpınar stated that the process has started today and GAU will be a foundation university in Turkey, and said:

‘‘An historic process is starting for GAU. Prior to its recognition as a foundation university, GAU is getting ready to give service in the following programmes; GAU Life Long Learning programmes, GAU-INTEB International Tourism Education Board programmes, Marine and Aeronautics programmes. GAU will start a new era with its Cambridge University’s Language Education Programmes and ELA (English Language Academy) Language Education Academy. GAU is the official member of the European Union’s leading tourism education accreditation agencies (TEDQUAL) accreditated by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and the International Tourism Education Board (GAU-INTEB) will also give service in our new building. The Marine and Aeronautics Academies will provide education in the fields of Marine and Aeronautics which are among the raising professions and strategic sectors in today’s globalising world, and will raise tomorrows successful yachtsmen and deep-sea captains and careerist pilots.’’
