Girne American University based on the mission of “One World Intercontinental Three Continents One University” and internationalization in higher education vision has added a new education center in İstanbulö Turkey.

In addition to Cyprus, England, Singapour and the USA campuses, the first building of the fifth campus established in Turkey has been introduced to press in Istanbul just before the formal opening ceremony.

In a press meeting organized for the representatives of TRNC press, the Founding Rector and the Chancellor Serhat Akpınar, the Vice Chancellors Olgun Üstün and Asım Vehbi and the Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Oner participated. In addition, as speakers, the department heads of the academic programs i n GAU İstanbul campus participated to the press conference.

Serhat Akpınar, the Founding Rector and the Chancellor of GAU, in his explanation stressed that it is essential for North Cyprus Higher Education to make attempts to compete with the world and reminded that the ambargos applied to Cyprus by the whole world are being broken by GAU global higher education strategies. With the mission of “One World Intercontinental Three Continents One University”, Akpınar pointed out that GAU campuses spread among continents have been giving important messages to the world. He also pointed out that the GAU senate decision to start its education in the first education building in İstanbul has a historical value.

Serhat Akpınar indicated that although there are indirect embargos over the TRNC Higher Education System and its Structure, for the development of TRNC universities, he underlined the importance of internationalization in higher education to meed the global competition.

At the press conference in his speech, Serhat Akpınar added that first step towards the approval of Turkish Higher Education Council requires a formation of foundation. With the approval of Higher Education Council graduate programs will be offered. He concluded that with these graduate programs GAU İstanbul will be an attraction center for the third world countries.
