In cooperation with the Girne American University (GAU) and Lapta Municipality, the giant educational project, which will continue for 22 months, has started.

Lapta Municipality has started to implement an English Training Program to the residents of Lapta, by taking a shape in scientific area, within the training project of Lapta Municipality and GAU-SEM, which will take about 2 years.

Ayşegül Nacak, Director of GAU-SEM, while providing information regarding the implementation of the project, stated that" In today`s society, where the importance and the need for lifelong learning increases every day, the need for individuals and institutions, which can capture the era and has continuous learning skills, is also increasing at the same rate.”

GAU`s CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrator Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi and the Mayor of Lapta Municipality Fuat Namsoy came together with the trainees at the first day of the courses, which are within the Giant education project.

Mayor of Lapta Municipality Fuat Namsoy stated the followings in his statement during the meeting;

“As the Municipality of Lapta, we have received the 555 thousand portion, for the project that we have to offer, of the 600 thousand Euros, which is the top limit for the grand scheme of one million euros, which was opened by the European Union for Northwest Region in order to make tourism more attractive and to contribute to the social and economic life, for the project that we have to offer. The content of the project covers our three-year strategic development program, the arrangements of village squares, the restoration of schools, nature museum, Turtle Protection Society and certain regulations including accommodation places of the Nature Volunteers. The grant program that will be performed is important in terms of receiving the ISO certificate. Because of this we requested an English course, which will last for 2 months for 60 people, in order to teach English to local community. Girne American University (GAU) offered us the best offer and facilities. So we decided to conduct this course with GAU. Upon our request GAU has provided a facility for 160 people, not for 60 people. Thank you very much to GAU family, Mister Asım and to colleagues.”

Girne American University CEO and Vice-Chancellor of Board of Administrators Assist. Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi stated the followings in his speech;

“As GAU, we are in cooperation with dear Mr. President for a long time. We have a wide vision and a very intense energy. The district of Lapta has made significant progress, compared to many parts of the island. We live in a region, where the Tourism is the apple of the eye. The President took the road by seeing the importance of it; it is our job to support it as GAU. After this time, they revealed a beautiful work, with the cooperation’s of GAU prep school and Continuing Education Center. At the end of the project, the trainees will have a certificate with the world-renowned and the validity.”

Foreign Language Training Programs

Nacak, who expressed that the foreign language training program, implemented by GAU-SEM, offers a quality of education that could raise the writing, listening and speaking skills of the students to the top level, stated that" The purpose of this program is to acquire reading and writing skills in accordance to each 3 different level, entry-level, intermediate level and advanced, and to do grammar exercises, translation with the support of texts and speaking activities.”
