In a TV show, Girne American University Global Education Institution Press Coordinator, Assist. Prof. Dr. Güven Arıklı stated that the Universities Association, which is recently established, will play an important role in improving the efficiency and quality of education. Arıklı stressed that the attempt, which was consisted of ideas 2 years ago, to hit the headlines about a week ago by force and get support from public shows that they are on the right track. Arıklı also stated that the election of Serhat Akpınar, GAU Founding Rector and Chancellor of the Board, as president by unanimous vote at the first meeting of Universities Association represented a particular importance and value.

The Mad Turk!..

Arıklı expressing that GAU Chancellor of the Board Serhat Akpınar took a great risk by including the Girne American University to the education life in TRNC and that the university sector firstly started with Serhat Akpinar in the country, stated the followings: “I think Akpinar is a figure that can be called "Mad Turk" which means brave, venturous and does what he wants. I believe wholeheartedly that the title "the Mad Turk" suits to someone who opened the first university in TRNC, attempted to open a faculty in Karpaz, which looks like abandoned and not shown enough interest but actually is the most distinguished place of the country, established campuses all around the world and to someone who collaborates with many of the world`s universities, gives scholarship to thousands of young people, to someone who defends and introduces his country with gratuitously where ever he goes.”

Arıklı, while giving the good news of the hospital which will have a capacity of serving to TRNC in private and to Middle East in general sector and will soon begin the constructions in Girne with a budget of 50 million euros at the first stage, expressed that; “Akpınar the Mad Turk is someone who dedicated himself to his country and countrymen. I can’t understand the limitations, prohibitions and difficulties made by the political parties because of personal or different ideas in order to block the university while all the work to implement such project is finalized.”  And stated that they won`t be undaunted by the busses which have been waiting at the customs for about 10 months without justification.

Arıklı, while stating that they celebrated the 30th year in education, their success will continue in the 2015 and the Cyprus American University, the sister university, will provide numerous quality services like Girne American University, expressed that; “We did not accept that our busses are waiting in the customs. We are right and we will continue to demand our rights. Because we didn`t do anything illegal. We brought vehicles from the same system for 30 years, like all the universities did each year. But we are attached to the bureaucratic obstacles. We want to solve this problem with peace, without a fight. We don`t want thousands of students and academics to hit the streets and claim their rights. But it will happen, if it needs to be.” Arıklı also stated that they didn`t have any problems with anybody and the vehicle should be removed from the customs and put into student’s service right away.
