GAU Second Theatre Days Are to Start With Mahser-i Cumbus

In the 2014-2015 academic year which GAU celebrates the thirtieth year, it will host famous plays and actors in its stage within the second Theatre Days which is under the main sponsorship of TEKNOGOLD.

 

Within GAU second Theatre Days which is under the main sponsorship of TEKNOGOLD, GAU will host famous plays and players in its stage in the 2014-2015 academic year which the university celebrates its thirtieth year.

 

Within GAU second Theatre Days, Mahser-i Cumbus will meet with theatre lovers on 23 March, Monday at 20:00pm in International Congress Center Spectrum Hall. In the organization which will be as part of 27 March World Theatre Day and in cooperation with GAU Acting-Drama Department and TEKNOGOLD, plays named Crooked, Beer Factory, After the end, Nice Day in the Park, Commune: Feminist Theatre, Very Cold, Dog Woman Man, Atalier: Improvised Acting, Caucasian Chalk Department will take the stage in the following days.

Mahser-i Cumbus is a community which was set up by six people who were studying in DTCF Theatre Department. They completed their cadre with 2 more members and have been maintaining the improvised tradition which is the most important feature of Traditional Turkish Theatre.

Yiğit Arı, Burak Satıbol, Dilek Çelebi, Ayhan Taş, Özlem Türay, Ayça Işıldar who set up the Mahser-i Cumbus community met in the  Ak: Ankara University DTCF Theatre Department. Assist. Prof. Dr. A. Kadir Çevik; doctorate in Improvized Theatre, thus Çevik started to pay special attention to improvisation in his lessons and they set their heart on this. After playing along with each other very well, they got a start in business together after the school and set up a theatre community in 2001. At the beginning, the community had 20 members. However, other members of the community quit in time. At the recommendation of their friend, they named their community as Mahser-i Cumbus which means back-goal spectator in Arabic. Later, the participation of Fatih Pestil and Fatih Günay, the community came to its current state.

 

The community which started its shows in the Ankara Tenedos Cafe, moved in to Istanbul in 2003. In 2005, they opened their own stage Hayalhane. The community has been involved in the television program named “Anında Görüntü Show” which started in Star and then skipped into Fox since 2007.

 

From the day it was set up until now, Mahser-i Cumbus demonstrated in many counties notably in Ankara and Istanbul and participated in festivals. Mahser-i Cumbus did the premiere of Theatre Sport which is one of the show styles of Improvised Theatre on January 14th 2008 and Theatre Sport was meeting with the audience for the first time in Turkey.


From 2006, with their new play “Brainstorming”, they have been presented a play which is enlivened by the attendance of audience and created from the imagination of audience and players. Until now, they’ve demonstrated Theatre Sport over 300, Brainstorming over 100 and represented Turkey in the 12th International Theatre Festival. Besides, they are continued to raise new generation thespians by providing Improvised Theatre Course.
