Official Invitation to GAU from Kyrgyzstan Commission

The Kyrgyzstan government commission - official invitees of the TRNC speakership - visited the Girne American University Kyrenia-Cyprus campus and held several official talks.

The invitees, Kyrgyzstan Assembly Vice President Talant Mamitov, MPs Ömürbek Bakırov and Dastanbek Jumabekov, President of TRNC-Central Asia Friendship and Cooperation Foundation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhan Arıklı and Kyrgyz journalist Azamat Tınayev were received by Girne American University Vice Chairman Asım Vehbi and Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner. The invitees obtained information about GAU, the international campuses, cooperations with the Central Asia Universities and cooperative education programmes. Vice chancellor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Olgun Çiçek also attended the reception which was held at GAU Rectorate Office.

The invitees visited TechnoPark advanced engineering education centre labaratories of GAU Cyprus-Kyrenia Campus and stated that the campus education programmes and technological infrastructure are on equal footing with modern countries who are authorities of higher education. On behalf of their country, the invitees also stated that they were proud of the continuing Kyrgyz students’ satisfaction of the masters and Ph.D programmes.

Emphasizing that he was honoured to share 27 years of academic experience with Central Asia and Turkish world, Vehbi reminded of the continuing cooperation agreements between universities providing education to Kyrgyzstan in particular and other Turkic governments. The Vice Chairman also referred to the significance of Kyrgyz students’ returns to their country as TRNC’s honorary cultural envoys of their periods with regards to the recognition of both countries cultures.

At the end of the visit GAU officials offered Kyrgyzstan Government authorities various presents pertaining to the Turkish Cypriot culture.
