Girne American University (GAU) Maritime and Transportation School continues achieving success without slowing down.

The "1st International Maritime and Transport Symposium ", which is prepared to be hosted by GAU with the collaboration of GEMİMO in the coming days, will be the first symposium in its field in TRNC.

GAU Principal of Higher-school, Unlimited Master and an Engineer of Sea Transportation Management Efdal Safel who has provided information about the GAU Maritime and Transportation School, indicated that their number of students increased intensely and stated that - "Our student population has reached 450 people, showing an increase of 100 percent in the last period."

Efdal Safel who underlined that they have been receiving successful results from their students who intern in the open sea with the merchant ships and that firms reported that they were satisfied with the knowledge and skills of students, explained that their students are generally from Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Libya, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya and Senegal.

Symposium topics

Safel stated that many papers and articles about "Maritime, Transport and Logistics" will be presented in the "1st International Maritime and Transport Symposium ", explained the symposium’s topics as followed:

"Green technologies, marine pollution, rules and standards, maritime history, sea-culture-human relations, multimodal transport, logistics and transportation, port and terminal management, maritime economy, international law of the sea, exclusive economic zones, health and safety risks, training certification and training, ship machinery, shipbuilding, energy alternatives, Brokering and Chartering, Flags Country, marine insurance, maritime search and rescue, yachts and pleasure boats, marine meteorology and marine environment."

Four-Year Undergraduate Education

Efdal Safel emphasized that undergraduate students continue their intercontinental internships in international waters and seas and underlined that GAU is the first and only university in Cyprus that provides Maritime practical training education at the international waters of the Mediterranean.

In the statement which draws attention to the fact that departments within the school offers the world`s rising global strategic professions to students, stated that the graduates who has approved GAU maritime diploma and qualified license from Republic of Turkey Ministry of Maritime Transport and Communications, Marine and Inland waters Regulation Directorate have the chance to start a career anywhere in the world.

Safel who highlighted in his statement that along with Maritime, Navigation, Marine Pollution, Meteorology and First Aid laboratories located within the Maritime and Transportation School, Albatross Marine Simulator, GMDSS and Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators, Fire and High Fire Station with outdoor Safety at Sea Education Facility actively founded in GAU Girne Cyprus Campus TechnoPark and world-class Maritime Training Pool will make a significant difference in maritime education, stated that besides the student development of scientific background that will launch a new era in maritime training, it will also make an important contribution to the maritime country, TRNC. According to the new Maritime Training and Examination Guidelines published in early June 2014, the preparations are at the completion phase.
