THE Analysis Report of TRNC Coast Prepared by GAU MURC Published

Surface Water Research study of North Coasts of TRNC which have been made in 2013 tourism season by Girne American University (GAU) Mediterranean Underwater Research Center (MURC), was published as Master`s Thesis and it was also published in the National Thesis Center by the Council of Higher Education.

In the statement made by the GAU Mediterranean Underwater Research Center, the seas where the sewage that contains urban and industrial wastes are poured into, are being polluted with the development of technology and this is threatening the living organisms that live in the aquatic environment. It was expressed that the interest and concerns towards to this subject are increasing each passing day in the world since the pollutans are being poured to the aquatic environment as the last stop and in this environments, it causes the physicochemical and biological changes that affect human life in a negative way. It was stated that the presence of fecal pollution carries health risks for individuals exposed to this water and the pollution created by the fecal-based bacteria may occur as a result of overflow of cesspools or the involvement of environmental waters with a point or non-point human or animal waste sources. It was emphasized that such adverse conditions may affect human health and country`s tourism in a negative way, GAU MURC conducted an extensive study during the summer season of 2013 especially in order to demonstrate the reliability of Kyrenia beaches and to get over it with a very minimal damage.

It was suggested that the MURC research team has collected data and water samples from determined 12 stations (figure 1) considering criteria pollutants every first and third weeks of the months from June to November in 2013, and the samples taken from seawater were transferred to the Central Laboratory under the appropriate conditions and the analysises have been done while documenting the relevant data. It was expressed that temperature, pH, Salinity, Conductivity, Dissolved O2, Suspended Solids, Phosphates (PO4-3), nitrite (NO2), nitrate (NO3), ammonia (NH3) have been obtained in the analysis of 12 stations. In addition it was emphasized thar the study was pressed as a master thesis by Bihter YANAR Asena, post graduate student in Muğla University, and it was published by the Council of Higher Education in the National Thesis Center.

Consequently, according to the data obtained; the sample results of the stations that have been measured and analysed, found over 90% away from the value risk, and also it was emphasized that considered some data that may vary depending on the intensity of tourism activity that takes place on the island showed fluctuations as anticipated on the measurements and the analyses made at different times.

It was stated that especially in samples taken between July and October which has high anthropogenic activities, it was found that the microbial pollution reducers of some stations are very close to the risk values.
