American College Commemorates Martyrs Week

Providing education under the Girne American University (GAU) school groups, American College students organized an event for December 21-25 Martyrs Memorial Week.

 

The Ceremony which was held at International Congress Centre Spectrum Hall was attended by Girne District Officer - Mehmet Envergil, GAU Vice Chancellor of the Board and Head of School Groups - Cemile Esenyel, GAU Vice Rector - Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal, Cyprus TMT Association Kyrenia Central Branch President - Metin Fahrioğlu as well as their directors, students and families.

 

The ceremony took place after standing in silence and the Turkish National Anthem with school choir performing Mücaitler Anthem and Cyprus Folk songs.  11th grade students read the National Anthem in a poetic way after the reading of Founding President Rauf Denktaş poetry entitled “Who Said.” 

 

After the opening speech made by the school principal - Aysu Balkanlar, Turkish Language and Literature teacher - Hüseyin Onan emphasized the meaning and importance of the date and highlighted the difficulties experienced in the past.

 

In his speech Cyprus TMT Association Kyrenia Central Branch President - Metin Fahrioğlu, indicated being proud to commemorate, our nameless heroes, saints,  martyrs and our ancestors who conquered Cyprus and knew how to turn this land into a homeland and he said even though we are in the pain and darkness of the anniversary, Turkish Cypriots can attain happiness.

 

The very first Cyprus night Turkish Air Force Martyr, Captain Cengiz Topel’s last words at the hospital, that reached to our day, ended last month with Kuyucuoğulları voicing it under the title “The Last Words”.

 

American College Principal - Aysu Balkanlar offered her thanks by giving flowers to the speakers that had participated in the program.
