WHAT'S

MAY 14, “PHARMACY DAY” FOR TURKEY AND TRNC (TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS)

May 14 is the annual “PHARMACY DAY” for Turkey and TRNC

(Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus).

This Day marks the beginning of the “Scientific Pharmacy Education” in the Ottoman Empire. The FIRST PHARMACY CLASS was opened in “Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane (Imperial School of Medicine)” in the Ottoman Empire in  May 14, 1839.

Every May 14, Pharmacists’ role in the rational (safe, effective, and cost-effective) use of pharmaceuticals and their contribution to public health is emphasized, and the image and the reputation of the Pharmacy Profession is underlined.

This year is a very special one for the Community and Hospital Pharmacists due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Pharmacists and their teams are making an incredible contribution at the frontline. Pharmacist Heroes all over the world risk their lives every day to serve the public.

A number of Community Pharmacists of the “Global Pharmacy Family” has passed away because of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus. There will be A MINUTE’S SILENCE at 12:00 on 14 May 2020 to remember the “Pharmacy Martyrs”, the frontline Pharmacists who have died as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. May their soul rest in peace.

“PHARMACY DAY” is an opportunity to discuss the strategies to further the value added to health care by Pharmacists through interdisciplinary collaboration.

This May 14, GAU School of Pharmacy is planning to hold a series of “e-discussions” to build a consensus among the stakeholders towards the “REPROFESSIONALISM IN THE PHARMACY PROFESSION”, with special attention to the Cognitive Pharmacy Services.

During this May, GAU School of Pharmacy, by means of online communication technology, will be discussing this topic with the active contribution of our Student Pharmacists.
